NICBR Scientific Symposium

The NICBR proudly presents the NICBR Scientific Symposium, open to post-doctoral, post-baccalaureate, graduate student, and technical support staff. The theme of this day-long symposium is "The Microbiome: Host Response to Disease", however presentations can cover any area of research being conducted by NICBR member organizations. The symposium, part of the 2014 NICBR Spring Research Festival, starts at 8:30am on May 5, 2014 in NCI at Frederick's Building 549 auditorium.

NICBR Collaboration Forum

The Spring Research Festival NICBR Research Collaboration Forum specifically invites speakers who have been working on a collaborative project between 2 or more NICBR partners at Ft. Detrick (e.g. NCI and USAMRIID). Attend the NICBR Research Collaboration Forum on May 6th in NCI at Frederick’s Building 549 Auditorium.

Keynote Speaker and Poster Blitz

The NICBR is proud to bring this NEW event to the Spring Research Festival. The keynote speaker, Dr. Jacques Ravel, will highlight this year’s theme, The Microbiome: Impact on Health and Disease with his talk “The Vaginal Microbiome Impact on Health and Disease”. Each of the NICBR agencies work to understand the interactions between hosts, whether they be plant or animal or human and the microbial world. Immediately before the Keynote speaker, the Poster Blitz begins, with brief overviews of selected posters displayed during the Scientific Poster Presentations. Attend the inaugural Keynote Speaker and Poster Blitz on May 7th, 9:30am, in Building 1529.

Scientific Poster Presentations

Sign up early, there are a limited number of poster slots!!!

All scientific staff, including technical support, postdoctoral fellows, and investigators, are encouraged to present posters describing their research efforts to both their colleagues and to the general public. Posters will be displayed for two days from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. The posters will be grouped and numbered according to area of research. Presenters are asked to be at their posters between 11:00am and 1:00 p.m. on their designated day to meet and discuss their research with judges, their peers, and special guests.

Posters should be up by 10:00 on Wednesday, then removed between 2:30 and 3:00 on Thursday. Due to the number of posters, poster presenters should not expect to be personally interviewed by the judges. List of 2014 Registered Poster Presentations

Commercial Science and Technology Expo

For the eighteenth consecutive year, the Biomedical Research Equipment and Supplies Exhibit sponsored by the Technical Sales Association (TSA) will be hosted on Ft. Detrick by the National Interagency Confederation for Biological Research (NICBR).

All exhibitors register for the Commercial Science and Technology Expo at: www.gtpmgt.com.

The Exhibit affords research professionals from the NICBR partners and area scientific communities a convenient opportunity to view a broad selection of the most advanced equipment, instruments, and services technology has to offer presented by major national and regional vendors. The exhibit is an on-site, casual forum that offers a hands-on update to researchers who otherwise might not have the opportunity to learn about new product developments as they emerge from the research lab to the marketplace. More than 200 exhibit booths will display state-of-the-art equipment designed to facilitate biomedical research including DNA synthesis, genetic engineering, electrophoresis, cell culture, chromatography, and much more.

Representatives from exhibiting firms will be at their booths to demonstrate equipment and answer questions about the use of their products in the research lab. The exhibit hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Technical Sales Association (TSA) is a nationwide, member-led organization based in the greater Washington DC area. Members are manufacturers and distributors who supply products and services to the biomedical research/biotech industries. Over the years, the Technical Sales Association has donated more than $45,000.00 from the exhibit proceeds to Ft. Detrick's Morale, Welfare, and Recreation fund in appreciation of the installation's support of this event.
