The Education Outreach Program gives you the opportunity to do "hands-on" science with small groups of children. The lessons are prepared, the materials are purchased, so all you have to do is commit 2 days (2-4 hours per day) to attend "school".

The Education Outreach Program is looking for volunteers. Each grade is scheduled to go to five schools in Frederick County this year.

The program is supported by the NCI-Frederick and its' support contractors, SAIC-Frederick, WISCO, DMS, and Charles River. Fort Detrick has joined our program as well. Your volunteer time is part of your work day with supervisor approval.

The time commitment involved is minimal -- usually 1/2 hour for training and a minimum two-day teaching commitment throughout the school year. The payback you will receive is the smiles on the faces of the children when they get to do their experiments with "real scientists." All of our volunteers, no matter what their positions, are "real scientists" while in the classroom with these children.

If you would like to participate and make a difference in a child's school experience and get them excited about SCIENCE, please sign up on the web site at http://ncifrederick.cancer.gov/Programs/General/EOP/Volunteer.aspx.

Please identify which grade level team(s) you would like to join. If you are uncertain of which grade level you would be comfortable with, please don't choose a grade. Once your registration is received, you will be contacted by the Coordinator or Team Leader with further information.

Thanks for volunteering. You will be an invaluable resource back to the community.

SAIC-Frederick Employees: The following has been approved by SAIC-Frederick’s Administration: Employees participating with supervisor approval in the NCI-Frederick Elementary Outreach Program (EOP) are authorized to charge Administrative Leave during the hours they participate in the EOP.

Please visit the EOP web site or contact eop@mail.nih.gov with any questions or concerns.
