The gate access hours have been revised by the USAG Fort Detrick (See article). The following information is provided by the USAG Fort Detrick. Please provide to all employees and visitors to the NCI Campus at Frederick. The NCI will continue to work with the USAG to address questions. There are no changes to facilities outside of the Fort Detrick campus (e.g., ATRF).

Access Process for Employees and Contractors

For federal employees and contractor staff with a CAC card, sometimes referred to as a PIV or HSPD-12 badge:

  • Access requirements will not change when these badges are used to access the property.
An important change: No other badges, such as cards issued by Leidos, will be accepted as identification. If you do not have your CAC card, you will be treated as a visitor and must gain access using the visitor process.

Access Process for Visitors Traveling With Employees or Contractors

The USAG has indicated in its handout that personnel with a CAC card will be allowed to escort visitors that are U.S. citizens or permanent residents using the Trusted Traveler program. However, all visitors must be prepared to show identification upon request and drivers should be prepared for potential delays.

Access Process for NCI Shuttle Riders

The NCI Shuttle driver will require visitors to show their CAC card prior to boarding the shuttle and all riders must possess a CAC card in order to ride the shuttle unless prior approval has been obtained. Special requests can be submitted through the special request process here.

Access Process for Visitors Traveling Without Escort

Visitors, to include delivery vendors, taxi drivers, construction or other subcontractors without CAC cards, will be required to gain access through an approved visitor gate. The visitor gates are as follows:

At the visitor gate, all visitors will be required to show identification, such as a state valid driver’s license or passport. Each visitor will undergo a background check prior to being allowed access.

For visitors that will be visiting for an extended period or have a recurring need, to include taxi drivers, vendors, or construction contractors, an Installation Access Badge or a NIH PIV card can be requested by following the instructions for visitors.

Nallin Gate (on Opossumtown Pike at Amber Dr) :

  • Open 24/7. All visitors must enter through this gate.

Veterans Gate (7th Street):

  • Mornings: Open Monday-Friday 5:30am - 9:00am, for inbound and outbound traffic for CAC Card Holders only.
  • Lunch Time: Open Monday-Friday 11:00am - 1:00pm, for inbound and outbound traffic for CAC Card Holders only.
  • Afternoons: Open Monday-Friday 3:00pm - 8:30pm, for outbound traffic only.

Rosemont Gate:

  • Mornings: Open Monday-Friday 6:00am - 9:00am, for inbound and outbound traffic for CAC Card Holders only.
  • Afternoons: Open Monday-Friday 3:30pm - 6:00pm, for outbound traffic only.

Old Farm Gate:

  • Open Monday-Friday 6:00am – 6:00pm, for inbound and outbound traffic for CAC Card Holders only.
