Strain Code 02L06 [LOU/MN]
Origin and Characteristics
To N in 1975 from Bazin at F? In 1970 Bazin and Beckers started breeding LOU rat
ancestors from various stocks kept at Univerisite Catholique de Louvain (probably
of Wistar origin); from 28 lines bred in parallel, LOU/M was selected for low immunocytoma
incidence and LOU/C for high immunocytoma incidence. (045)
Genetics
c
Albino
LOU/MN rats are histocompatible with LOU/CN rats.
Genes:
RT1y
Notes:
Information is included from LOU/MWsl; information from references that refer to
LOU/Wsl is included under LOU/CN if the immunocytoma incidence is high.
Diseases
Neoplastic (Spontaneous)
- Immunocytomas developed in 0.7% of males and 2.1% of females, a rate comparable
to other rat strains with the exception of LOU/C. (050)
Other Characteristics
Immunologic
- High reaginic antibody serum levels were produced by administration of ovalbumin
with Bordetella pertussis as adjuvant; response was similar to hooded Lister
rats, a very high responder strain. (043)
- Passive cutaneous anaplylaxis (PCA) reactivity was completely abolished in rats
bearing an IgE immunocytoma, but only slightly suppressed in rats bearing an IgG20
- immunocytoma; reversed PCA reactivity was only slightly decreased in both. PCA reactivity
in normal LOU/M rats was comparable to Wistar rats for the pooled regain-rich sera
against Nip-postrongylus brasiliensis obtained from Wistar rats. (512)
Physiologic
- Circadian rhythms of excretion of amino acids, polyamines, and light chains were
studied in rats bearing an immunocytoma; the rhythms are of interest as potential
markers for the chronotherapy of cancer. (243)
- The effect of methlprednisolone sodium succinate upon a transplantable immunocytoma
was studied under conditions standardized for rhythmometry. (384)
