Frederick National Lab Listserv Information

LISTSERVs, which replaced the old “majordomo” system several years ago, allow Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research employees to subscribe to e-mail lists that pertain to specific topics. Once subscribed, you will receive all messages submitted to that list and then you can converse directly, via regular e-mail, with the individual who posted the message. When an e-mail is sent to a list, it is reviewed, approved, and then LISTSERV automatically distributes the message to all list subscribers. There are currently eight LISTSERVs specifically related to the Frederick National Lab as follows.

INFO	General information; Scientific Library; Environment, Health and Safety (EHS); Occupational Health Services (OHS); and NCI Green Team announcements
NOTICE	Road closures; Ft. Detrick gate access information; Outages (power, network, phone, computer system, steam, water, fax, etc.); Post closings; Non-emergency weather-related announcements **All FNL employees are automatically subscribed to the NOTICE listserv. You cannot unsubscribe.
CLASSES	Announcements for classes sponsored by Frederick National Lab internal organizations such as Data Management Services, Inc. (DMS), the Scientific Library, or SAIC-Frederick Training and Development Office
SEMINARS	Frederick National Lab and NIH seminar announcements; Internal and external symposiums
AVAILABLE	Notification of available surplus equipment
NEEDED	Requests for anything required to support the work of the Frederick National Lab (cell lines, agents, help requests, use of equipment, etc.)
NCI-EVENTS	Announcements pertaining to Scientific Research Festival, Take Your Child to Work Day, Farmers Market, Diversity events, Scientific Library events, and NIH events of interest to Frederick National Lab employees
USAG-EVENTS	U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) events that are open to government and government contractor employees

How do I subscribe to a LISTSERV list?

Send an e-mail to listserv@list.nih.gov with the following text in the message body:

Subscribe Listname Your name
(For example, if I wanted to subscribe to the SEMINARS listserv, I would type “Subscribe SEMINARS Andi Gnuschke” in the body of the email. LISTSERV will get your e-mail address from the “From” field of your e-mail message.)

How do I unsubscribe from a LISTSERV list?

Send an e-mail to listserv@list.nih.gov with the following text in the message body:

Unsubscribe Listname
(For example, if I wanted to unsubscribe to the SEMINARS listserv, I would type “Unsubscribe SEMINARS” in the body of the email.)

How do I send mail to a list?

To send mail, or "post," to a list, address your e-mail message to:

listname@list.nih.gov
(For example if I wanted to post to the INFO listserv, I would send the message to INFO@list.nih.gov. Listname is the name of the list you want to post to.)

How do I stop my mail while I'm away from my office?

Send an e-mail to listserv@list.nih.gov with the following text in the message body:

set listname nomail
To restart your mail, send the following message:
set listname mail
