10th Annual CCR and DCEG Staff Scientist and Staff Clinician Retreat

All Staff Scientists, Staff Clinicians and FNL Scientists are invited!

Principal Investigators are also very welcome!

The National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Research (CCR), Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG), and the Frederick National Lab for Cancer Research (FNL) will hold a retreat for all Staff Scientists and Staff Clinicians on April, 25th, 2014. Our theme this year is, "Kicking Cancer in the RAS." Given the renewed focus on RAS-driven cancers, this is a great chance for all of us to hear directly from the cutting edge of research in this field.

Our keynote speaker is Frank McCormick, Ph.D., FRS. He is past AACR president, head of the UCSF cancer center, and director of the RAS Cancer Genetics Initiative at the FNL. Following Dr. McCormick's remarks, we will have an interactive panel and a discussion session where all audience members will participate. This will be guided by Dr. McCormick and 5 other leaders in the field: Dr. Ruth Nussinov, Dr. Stuart H. Yuspa, Dr. David C. Heimbrook, Dr. Debora K. Morrison, and Dr. Nadya Tarasova. We will also have time to share and present our research, in order to network, build relationships, and increase collaborations. Upon evaluation of the judging committee, we will have 3 submitted abstracts chosen for oral presentation from each of three categories: Clinical and Translational Research, Basic Research, and Technologies and Methodologies Development. Also, during the retreat there will be a time for each of us to present a poster in one of two poster sessions. Judges will select the top three posters presented at the retreat for travel awards. The retreat will also feature opening remarks by the new head of the DCEG, Dr. Stephen Chanock and closing remarks by NCI CCR director, Dr. Robert Wiltrout.

We are trying a new location this year: The NCI campus at Shady Grove. There is free parking and shuttle service from all campuses. To make things really special, we will have our poster sessions outside on the lawn of the NCI Shady Grove campus! Please register and join us for an outstanding chance to better our science and our work together here at the NCI.

Abstract submission deadline: March 28th, 2014
Registration deadline: March 31st, 2014

Travel awards will be given to the best poster presentations and a few oral presentations will be selected from submitted abstracts; please see details here: abstract submission guidelines
