Strain Description: This is a knock-in of Cre into the Nkx3.1 locus, placing it under the transcriptional control of the Nkx3.1 promoter, and creating a null allele. Cre recombinase activity is detected in nearly all prostate epithelial cells (luminal and basal) starting from before birth.

Cryopreservation Mating Scheme: The cryopreservation mating scheme is homozygous x homozygous. When maintained as a live colony, breeder pairs were distributed as homozygotes. Homozygous males should be bred at a young age (within the first 4-5 months). Occasionally, if not bred early on, they do not mate; some homozygous males never breed. If there is a breeding cage that has not had pups for 2 months, the male should be removed and a new one put in. Once they start breeding they do fine. Average litter size is 6-8.
