Strain Description: RIP1-TAg5 mice show a delayed onset of SV49 large T transgene expression, with sporadic activation of expression in a subset of the pancreatic beta cells beginning at 9-10 weeks of age. Tumors develop by 24 weeks with 100% penetrance. An autoimmune response develops against the oncogene-expressing beta cells, unlike in the RIP-TAg2 strain where mice are systemically tolerant to large T antigen. This strain presents a more typical tumor phenotype, in that not all beta cells express the transgene and the expression is activated in adulthood.

Cryopreservation Mating Scheme: The cryopreservation mating scheme is C3H/HeJCr females x hemizygous males. When maintained as a live colony, breeder pairs were distributed as a hemizygote (male or female) x C3H/HeNCr (MTV -) (male or female). This strain was maintained as a continuous backcross to C3HeB/FeJ prior to arriving at the MMHCC Repository and is now maintained as a continuous backcross to C3H/HeN (MTV -). Neither C3H strains carry MTV (mouse mammary tumor virus). This strain originally arose from the microinjection of B6D2F2 embryos. Wild type littermates may be used in the breeding scheme.
