Strain Description: The BLBP-Cre mice were developed to allow for Cre-mediated inactivation (or overexpression) in neural stem cells. The transgene used to develop these mice included a 1.6kb fragment of the mouse brain lipid binding protein (BLBP or B-FABP) promoter, a nuclear-targeted Cre recombinase cDNA, and a LacZ reporter expressed from an internal ribosomal entry site (IRES), so that both Cre and LacZ are co-expressed. Cre recombinase transgene expression is first detected in the subventricular zone and hippocampus at embryonic day 9.5 and coincides with endogenous BLBP expression.
