Strain Description: The mice display normal wildtype phenotype. Administration of doxycycline, by diet or injection, induces expression of GFP in the melanocytes in the hair follicles of the skin. In embryonic stages, GFP+ cells arise at ~E10.5 and gradually spread through the neural crest, retinal pigment epithelium, and telencephalon in the brain, consistent with the known expression pattern of the Dct gene. Due to the fusion with histone H2B, GFP fluorescent signal in the cells is distinctly nuclear.
