Calling All Golfers

Teams are forming for the third annual R&W Club Frederick Golf Tournament on Sept. 14. Last year’s tournament hosted more than 40 players and raised nearly $1,000 for the NIH Children’s Inn, Bethesda, Md.

The tournament will be held at Maryland National Golf Club in Middletown, Md.

“The Maryland National Golf Club course and location are beautiful, and the golf club staff is so accommodating  that we had no hesitation in booking the event there again this year,” said Tanya Ransom, biologist, NCI Center for Cancer Research, and the coordinator of the annual event.

The R&W Club Frederick hosted a sewing party on Feb. 18 to give employees a chance to help sew pillowcases for children hospitalized for illnesses and cancer treatments. The nonprofit organization ConKerr Cancer provides the pillowcases to children across the country.

Melissa Porter, administrative manager, Office of Scientific Operations, NCI at Frederick, and vice chair of the R&W Club Frederick, said the event went well. While the turnout was lower than expected, 27 pillowcases were completed, she said.
