I came to the NCI-Frederick this summer through the Werner H. Kirsten Student Intern Program expecting to learn and challenge myself. However, what I wasn’t expecting was the great experience and excitement of the Scientific Library’s Student Jeopardy Tournament. I entered the competition with Anuk Dayaprema, someone whom I had only met a handful of times, mostly through mutual friends. We both had no idea what to expect in terms of the difficulty of questions, our competition, or the publicity of the event. In the end, the questions were manageable, the competition was challenging yet friendly, and our enthusiastic peers in the audience amplified it all.

However, out path to victory was no easy feat. We were ahead by quite a large margin for most of the final round, but with only a few clues left on the board, the second place team correctly answered a Daily Double, sky-rocketing them to within a few hundred points. We pulled out the victory in Final Jeopardy, but not without some nervousness and sweat.

Overall, my experience here at the NCI has been such a great learning experience, and it would not have been possible without everyone in my lab group, and especially my mentor Nadya Tarasova. I truly appreciate all the time they all put in to help me learn and continue my research.

I’d like to give my thanks to the Scientific Library for hosting this event, and hope they put on many more Student Jeopardy Tournaments in the future.
