Wilson Information Services Corporation (WISCO), of New Market, Maryland, is responsible for providing library services to Government and Contractor personnel
at the NCI at Frederick. This includes obtaining and disseminating information necessary for
research and administration.
In general, the Scientific Library assists in all phases of the research process, providing:
The information comprises a wide variety of formats: published materials, computerized databases, electronic media, audiovisuals, and Internet resources,
all intended to provide both retrospective and current data. Online and CD-ROM bibliographic searching, document delivery, current awareness updating, and
interlibrary loan are typical of the services available to employees. Instructing users in ways to obtain information in an electronic environment and assisting
them in making the most of their online research resources is an increasingly important aspect of the services the Library provides.
The Scientific Library in Building 549 on the campus of Fort Detrick is available for use by the general public during regular Library hours, Monday through Friday,
8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Everyone must sign in at the Library entrance and present valid photo identification. Anyone may read from the Library's book and journal
collections, use the public computers, and make copies of articles. However, the general public cannot borrow books, receive reference assistance from Library staff,
or attend instructional classes.
Employees not directly affiliated with NCI at Frederick cannot use additional Library services without written permission from the NCI Contracting Officer. Those individuals
wanting to borrow Scientific Library materials must make arrangements with their company’s library to obtain these materials via Interlibrary Loan.
