19th Annual Book & Media Swap

Do you have some books in your personal collection that need a new home? If you do, then the Scientific Library’s 19th Annual Book & Media Swap is for you!

The 19th Annual Book & Media Swap will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., in the Lobby of the Conference Center in Building 549.

Take advantage of this popular event to trade books, DVDs, and CDs that you have enjoyed in exchange for ones you have not yet encountered. We will accept all gently-used materials as long as three requirements are met:

  1. All materials must be CLEAN and in GOOD CONDITION.

  2. All materials must be commercially produced. We cannot accept any home-recorded or amateur-created products.

  3. All materials must be personal items. Please do NOT include materials that have been purchased by your project. Those items are government property, and may NOT be donated to this activity.

NOTE: We will NOT accept any videotapes or magazines.

Collection for the Book Swap will begin on Monday, September 30, and run through Tuesday, October 29. When you bring your books, DVDs, and CDs into the Library, we will issue you a “book card” that indicates how many items you have donated.

Opening Day for the 19th Annual Book and Media Swap is Wednesday, October 30. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Center Lobby in Building 549, you can visit the Swap to find “new” items, as many as are indicated on your card. You do not have to make an exact swap. If you donated 3 CDs, you can take 3 books, DVDs, or CDs, or a combination. The Swap will remain open until 2:00 p.m.

Book swap participants can also select from Wrapped Clue Books, where Book Swap books of various genres will be wrapped in paper and labeled with clues about the identity of the books. Follow the clues to solve the mystery of a good book!

The Swap will then continue in the Scientific Library through Friday, November 29. At the conclusion of the Swap, all unclaimed materials will be donated to local charities.

Employees working at the ATRF and Industry Lane and the Vaccine Plant will also be able to participate in the Swap. Scientific Library staff members will visit off-site locations to collect donated materials. This process will save off-site people an extra trip onto campus. Off-site employees will still need to come to the actual Book Swap, but we can help with the donation process.
