  1. Abstract:

The reaction of nitric oxide with benzyl cyanide in the presence of sodium methoxide forms the bis-diazeniumdiolated imidate, PhC[C(OMe)=NH][N(O)NO-Na+](2). This compound decomposes in acidic media to yield nitric oxide, nitrous oxide and 2-oximino-2-phenylacetic acid methyl ester. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
