NCI at Frederick Poster Submissions

Recently articles written by Alan Doss and Matt Stirling, Librarians at the Scientific Library, were highlighted in the NCI at Frederick Poster online newsletter.  Read on to find out more about an analysis of the NCI at Frederick Scientific Publications database and the virtual discussion with the Patient-Derived Models Repository (PDMR) group.

Analysis of NCI at Frederick Scientific Publications

The Scientific Library’s NCI at Frederick Scientific Publications database, as its name implies, provides a repository of citations to works authored by NCI at Frederick researchers. The Library recently ran an analysis on the references that had been added to the database during the period from October 1, 2020 through December 31, 2020 and reported the results of that analysis in the NCI at Frederick Poster newsletter.  The report titled “NCI at Frederick Publications: October-December 2020” highlighted some of the topics covered in the referenced publications, as well as the number of citations they had garnered to date in the Web of Science database. Top journals they were published in, and top institutions the authors had collaborated with were also highlighted in this third in a series of quarterly analyses on NCI at Frederick Scientific Publications.

Virtual Discussion Features the NCI Patient-Derived Models Repository

The Scientific Library recently hosted its first virtual discussion of 2021, featuring Yvonne A. Evrard, Ph.D., operations manager for the NCI Patient-Derived Models Repository (PDMR) at NCI at Frederick and the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNL). These virtual discussions are one way the Library uses its position as a research information hub to engage scientific researchers through collaboration, interaction, and discussion.

The PDMR is a national repository of cancer models sourced from patients. It is being developed by the NCI to serve as a resource for academic and commercial investigators in their drug discovery and development research efforts.

The NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Photo Library has been a service of the NOAA Central Library since 1998. Their new Photo Library, launched in 2019, organizes approximately 80,000 images into broad collections which are further arranged into specific galleries. Images within the NOAA Photo Library are contributed by NOAA staff and help depict NOAA’s work to explain and interpret our changing environment. The collection includes thousands of weather and space images, hundreds of images of shores and coastal seas, and thousands of marine species images ranging from whales to the most minute plankton. “Welcome to Your Library”: National Library Week April 4-10, 2021

Natinal Library Week

During the week of April 4-10, 2021, the Library invites you to help us in celebrating National Library Week.  This week-long observation by the American Library Association originated in 1958 to encourage people to read and visit their local libraries. This year’s theme is “Welcome to Your Library” and the staff is eager to greet patrons when in-person operation is resumedIn the interim, we would like to welcome you to explore the many services that continue beyond the four walls of a building.  Even during the challenges presented by this past year’s pandemic, the Scientific Library staff is providing information services while working remotely.  These services include access to electronic journal articles and books, Interlibrary Loan, and training classes.  The Library Staff continues to be available to answer your questions via the Library’s email address NCIFredLibrary@mail.nih.gov or at the main Library telephone number 301-846-1093.  Watch for the fun trivia questions about libraries and librarians who were featured in popular movies coming to your email during National Library Week with the link to the answers on Friday, April 10 on the Library’s webpage.  Please, continue to visit us virtually until we can once again welcome you to your Library.
