Miscellaneous Policies and Guidelines
FRCE has very few hard restrictions, with most policies running along the lines of being considerate of other users. A non-exclusive list includes:
- Do not run resource-intensive jobs on the head node. This is a hard requirement and any process using over 10 CPU-minutes will be automatically killed with a cryptic error message. For these jobs, either use an
sruninteractive session or bring up an Open OnDemand desktop session. - File transfers using scp or rsync can fall into the resource-intensive category of jobs, as they do use a considerable amount of CPU. In addition to the solutions above, you can log into fsitgl-xfer03p and transfer files from the command line on that system.
- Do not keep
srunsessions open and idle for long periods, as the allocated resources for these sessions are not available to other users. This is particularly important when requesting GPU systems. - The FRCE administrators are unable to create new network shares or change the quotas on existing shares. A Service Now form is available for any storage requests.
- Similarly, FRCE administrators cannot add users to Active Directory groups and access to network shares are controlled by AD groups. A Service Now ticket is required to make these changes.
