What’s New at the EML

News

CONGRATULATIONS:  Thirty-eight-year electron microscopy veteran Kunio Nagashima was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Technologist (Biological Sciences) Award from the Microscopy Society of America (MSA), the world’s largest professional association of microscopists.  The award was given in recognition of the unique sample preparation techniques that Kunio has developed, including in-situ processing/embedding of cell cultures and a custom-designed way to ultracentrifuge small amounts of viruses into an embedding mold for further fixation and embedding.  Developing the in-situ embedding has been very important in successfully studying virus budding and cell-to-cell virus transmission.

FNLCR SPRING RESEARCH FESTIVAL AWARD:  Ferri Soheilian, EML member supporting research for the Drug Resistance Program (DRP), was presented an award in recognition of an outstanding poster in the Structural Biology and Chemistry catagory for her poster: High-Pressure Freezing and Freeze-Substitution Shows Enhanced Details in Niemann-Pick Type C Disease Cells.
