Analysis of Gel Bands for Protein Identification

This method requires approximately 2 days of sample preparation.  The sample then requires 2 hours of mass spectrometry time to acquire the data.  The data is then shipped to a computer cluster for bioinformatic analysis.  

In most requests multiple samples are sent for analysis.  Some requests will comprise 100 samples or more.  Unfortunately, acquisition of the MS data cannot be done concurrently so a project of 100 gel bands will require at least 200 hours of MS time.  The LPAT does everything it can to minimize the time required and has automated all MS data acquisition so that data is acquired 24/7.  After MS data acquisition, the bioinformatic analysis can take anywhere from a single day to about one week, depending on the complexity of the datasets.
