Laboratory Overview

The PCL develops and maintains unparalleled abilities in surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy and fluorescence and has complementary protein chemistry techniques for protein identification, including mass spectrometry and classic Edman protein sequencing.  The lab has state-of-the-art MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry with imaging and high mass detection capabilities.  The laboratory also provides HPLC purification and quality control of protein and oligonuleotides.  The technologies above are available as core services. Molecular Interactions

The PCL characterizes interactions between proteins, nucleic acids and small molecules. The PCL has pioneered the use of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) spectroscopy primarily using GE/Biacore instruments since 1992. In addition we have developed complementary solution based methods using fluorescence anisotropy, fluorescence intensity and time-resolved fluorescence for the study of molecular interactions.

Protein Chemistry

The PCL can provide complete characterization of your protein sample. Technologies include N-terminal sequence determination (Edman), protein identification via mass spectrometry and database searching, post-translational modification determination, as well as purification and isolation of biologically active components.

Mass Spectrometry

The PCL offers advanced mass spectrometry services including MALDI-TOF, MALDI-TOF/TOF and LC/MS/MS. Applications include molecular weight determination for proteins, peptides, DNA/RNA, carbohydrates and small molecules. Novel technologies in the PCL include imaging mass spectrometry and ultra high mass detection, as well as molecular complex characterization via mass spectrometry.
