Enhanced Protein Expression in Mammalian Cells
The quality of recombinant mammalian proteins is best when they are expressed in mammalian cells. However, the level of expression protein in mammalian systems is generally low, in part because of inefficient entry of transfected DNAs into the nucleus. The Protein Expression Laboratory (PEL) is working to develop systems for improving protein expression in mammalian system by (a) improving nuclear translocation of transgenes and (b) by establishing conditions for transcription/translation of transgene in the cytoplasm, thus avoiding the requirement for nuclear entry. Our preliminary data show 3-4 fold more protein production by improving nuclear translocation.
