How to Apply

We have provided a selected amount of information below. However, during the online application process students must read and confirm ALL information before they complete the application process.

Apply Online

Student applications will be completed and submitted using our online system.  Before beginning your application, please review the eligibility requirements below and read through the Full Application Package [PDF], as you will be required to agree to the application Terms & Conditions to participate.

To begin your application you will need to login using a MyNCI-F account. To create a MyNCI-F account please use the following website: http://my.ncifcrf.gov/

Make sure to read all of the account creation instructions carefully in order to ensure that your account is created quickly and successfully.  If you have any questions about creating or updating a MyNCI-F account please contact the webmaster at: ncifwebmaster@nih.gov.

Eligibility

Participating students must meet the following criteria:

  1. Be in their junior year of high school when applying.
  2. Have taken or planning to take both a science and mathematics course or have the equivalent of three math/science years of credits.
  3. Have an overall un-weighted grade point average of 3.0 or greater (based on a 4.0 maximum). Students with a GPA 2.5 - 3.0 may apply if they provide a third teacher recommendation.
  4. Be able to qualify (for scientific interns) for the Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) Program which requires that the student be sixteen years of age or older, and a U.S. citizen or resident alien.
  5. Have valid health insurance.
  6. Have had 10 or fewer excused absences from school during sophomore year (Students with 10 or more must provide explanation).

Application Process

All requested information is listed below and must be completed within the online student application.

All required signatures must be obtained in order for the application to be considered.

  1. Review and print a copy of the Full Application Package [PDF] for your records
  2. Personal Information
  3. Parental Consent Form
  4. Students who are not US citizens MUST provide a copy of their Permanent Resident Card to their school contact.
  5. Two teacher evaluations
  6. Resume
  7. School transcript
  8. A letter from the Student including:
    • academic goals and career interests
    • reasons for wishing to participate in the Program
    • hobbies and other areas of interest
    • relevant personal experiences that define you as an individual
  9. Print completed application and submit to school contact.
