Origin and Characteristics

To N 1973 from Potter at F36+. Strong (1920) from cross of Bagg albino female to DBA male. Strains C, C3H, C121, and CHI originated from this cross. Sent to Haldane and Gruenberg from Little in 1932, thence to Carter in 1947, to Harwell in 1954.

Diseases

Neoplastic (Spontaneous):

  • Mammary tumor frequency moderate. (237)

Non-Neoplastic (Spontaneous)

  • Absence of one or more third molars in 18% of males and females. (235)

Non-Neoplastic (Induced):

  • Highly susceptible to Edmonston strain of measles virus. (513)

Other Characteristics

Biochemical:

  • Acute ethanol administration activated liver tryptophan pyrrolase, and decreased brain tryptophan metabolism. (028)

Misc:

  • Arachidonic acid depressed thymus weight; thymolysis inhibited by indomethacin which blocks converstion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. (456)
