Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory
NOTICE: The Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory (AHDL) is pleased to announce that our sister laboratory,
the Animal Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (AMDL) will be providing the Molecular Testing of Biological Materials
(MTBM) Assay in-house. The AMDL has developed and validated the assay for the current viral profile. This in-house
assay has several advantages including enhanced sensitivity, quicker turnaround time, requires less test material
and at a reduced cost.
Starting January 11, 2013 all biological materials for the MTBM-M Assay will be conducted in-house by the AMDL.
The submission process remains the same, with submission of the On-Line MOLECULAR TESTING OF BIOLOGICAL MATERIALS
(MTBM) REQUEST FORM for each sample (link found below). Samples can be delivered anytime to the AHDL, located in
Building 429. Samples submitted by COB Tuesday will be submitted weekly to the AMDL Wednesday morning.
Animal Holding and Technical Support Program
 |
Responsible for the health monitoring of all rodents and rabbits at NCI-Frederick, NCI-Bethesda, NCI-DTP Rodent Producers, and several NCI contract facilities |
 |
Provides diagnostic resources to several other NIH animal facilities and the US Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases |
 |
The major focus of diagnostic services includes bacteriology, parasitology, serology, molecular detection of pathogens, and health monitoring necropsies |
 |
The AHDL works closely with the Animal Holding and Technical Support, the Laboratory Animal Medicine Program, and the Pathology and Histotechnology Laboratory to provide a comprehensive approach to health monitoring |
 |
The AHDL has more than 30 years of service to the research community |
 |
The AHDL has been in the forefront of rodent diagnostics, including the detection and original isolation of Helicobacter hepaticus, one of the most recently discovered and significant rodent pathogens in many years |
