Event Description
"A Novel Role of the mRNA Surveillance Machinery in Maintaining Genetic Robustness"
Mohamed El-Brolosy is a Ph.D. student in the laboratory of Dr. Didier Stainier. He discovered a novel translation-dependent pathway for altering the transcription of specific genes. In this pathway, the degradation of mRNAs carrying premature termination codons allows mRNA decay factors and/or decay intermediates to translocate to the nucleus and recruit chromatin modifiers, resulting in increased transcription of related genes (El-Brolosy et al., Nature 568, 193-197, 2019).
This seminar is hosted by the RNA Biology Laboratory and will be available using Webex.
