Nicole Baumgarth, DVM, PhD is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor, the Peetz Family Professor and inaugural director of the Lyme and Tickborne Diseases Institute at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her laboratory studies B cell responses to infection and vaccination, as well as immunology of responses to Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease, where her work has uncovered mechanisms of immunity that are suppressed or subverted to allow these spirochetes to establish persistent infections in mice.
