Author Identifiers and Publication Lists

Do you want to distinguish yourself from other researchers with the same or similar names or to create a public list of your publications? A researcher’s name often is not enough to reliably identify the author of, or contributor to, an article published in a journal or a dataset uploaded to a repository. The following tools allow you to create an accessible, complete list of your publications as well as a unique identifier to make your work easier to find.

My Bibliography (NCBI)

My Bibliography is a reference tool that helps you save your citations on your My NCBI account directly from PubMed or, if not found there, to manually enter citations using My Bibliography templates. My Bibliography provides a centralized place where citations are easily accessed, exported as a file, and made public to share with others. My Bibliography can be used to populate the publication list on your SciENcv profile (more information below).

ORCID

ORCID ORCID (pronounced “orkid”) stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. The ORCID initiative focuses on solving the name ambiguity problem by creating persistent unique identifiers and linking mechanisms between different ID schemes and research objects. The ORCID Registry is available free of charge to individuals. On the ORCID website you may register for free to obtain an ORCID identifier, manage your record of activities and publications, and search for others in the Registry. You may also link to your ResearcherID and import works and biographical information from your ResearcherID profile.

  • Kudos - You can connect your ORCID and Kudos accounts to list your publications when you use Kudos to explain and share your work.
  • SciENcv (NCBI) - The Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv) is an application in My NCBI that helps you create online professional profiles that can be made public to share with others. SciENcv allows you to create an NIH biosketch. SciENcv profiles include, when registered with ORCID, your ORCID iD.

Publons/ResearcherID

Publons provides a solution to the author ambiguity problem within the scholarly research community. When you register for your free account, you are assigned a unique identifier (ResearcherID) which enables you to track your publications, citation metrics, peer reviews, and journal editing work and avoid author misidentification. In addition, your information integrates with Web of Science and is ORCID compliant, allowing you to claim and showcase your publications from a single account.

Please contact the Scientific Library, if you have any questions about these author identifiers or if you would like assistance in setting up your publication list.
