Dr. Shyam Sharan, Head of the Genetics of Cancer Susceptibility Section, presented recent research that he and his staff have done with regard to breast cancer genetics. The Congressman was knowledgeable, engaged and interested, asking many questions about the research.

Afterwards, Rep. Delaney and others walked to the Small Animal Imaging Facility at building 376 for a short tour and the opportunity to ask questions.

Although his visit was short and sweet, his presence was appreciated by NCI at Frederick Leadership. Delaney said his focus right now is on reelection but he hopes to continue to be an ally for NIH and NCI biomedical research funding.

In attendance for the visit was Dr. Craig Reynolds, Dr. Dave Heimbrook, Steven Davis, Dr. Shyam Sharan, M.K. Holohan and Blair Feldman from the NCI Legislative Office, and Andrea Frydl from Office of Scientific Operations. Representative Delaney was accompanied by his staffer, Kevin Mack.

Dr. Reynolds said of Delaney’s visit, “ It is always a good thing to have an engaged and interested member of Congress come visit our facilities here in Frederick. We like to make sure they are aware and can speak honestly about the useful and productive ways we are using the American tax dollars.”
