Occupational Health Services intern Esteban Garcia

Editor’s note: As part of Occupational Health Services’ ongoing workplace wellness program, Poster will highlight employees who are committed to health and wellness. The first edition features the current OHS interns. 

Hello, my name is Esteban Garcia. My family is from El Salvador, and I was raised in Brunswick, Maryland. I am 18 years old, and I just graduated from Brunswick High School. This fall, I’ll be majoring in chemistry at Johns Hopkins University. My goal is to go to medical school to specialize in trauma surgery.

What is your favorite thing to do to stay active?
Playing soccer.

How often do you exercise and when?
I exercise two to four times a week, after work/school.

How did you get into physical fitness?
I’ve been playing soccer year-round since I was five years old.

What motivates you to stay active?
I like to stay fit and maintain a slim figure.

What do you do for fun?
Soccer mainly, but I do like working on my car as well.

What is your wellness goal?
Stay in shape for college. I plan to keep playing soccer for fun.

What is your favorite food?
A Peruvian dish called “lomo saltado.”

My name is Kiersten Ropp. I am 17 years old and a rising senior at Brunswick High School. I plan on going to college after I graduate from high school. I want to major in nursing and become an ER nurse in the future.  

What is your favorite thing to do to stay active?
Cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.

How often do you exercise and when?
I exercise three to four times a week, mostly in the evening.

How did you get into physical fitness?
My parents encouraged me to run in a cross country and track club when I was in elementary school.

What motivates you to stay active?
The outcome—being strong and feeling good!

What do you do for fun?
I like to travel, be with my family, and be active.

What is your wellness goal?
To be active five or more days a week.

What is your favorite food?
Pasta.

 

 

My name is Sneh Gandhi. I am 17 years old, and I am a rising senior at Urbana High School. In college I would like to study medicine and one day become a surgeon specializing in either cardiothoracic surgery or neurosurgery.

What is your favorite thing to do to stay active?
Weightlifting at the gym.

How often do you exercise and when?
Three to five days a week around 7:00 p.m.

How did you get into physical fitness?
Playing football in high school got me into fitness.

What motivates you to stay active?
Getting stronger, achieving new goals, and looking good.

What do you do for fun?
I like fishing and hanging out with my friends.

What is your wellness goal?
I’d like to be able to bench press 225 lbs.

What is your favorite food?

Hi, my name is Luke Forsberg, and I am 22 years old. I am a rising senior attending Liberty University, majoring in marketing. I would like to go into pharmaceutical sales, as it will utilize my background in the science field and my sales experience.

What is your favorite thing to do to stay active?
Playing basketball and traveling.

How often do you exercise and when?
I work out three to five times a week in the evening.

How did you get into physical fitness?
I noticed I was gaining weight, and that pushed me to become more active.

What motivates you to stay active?
It generally feels good and gives me energy.

What do you do for fun?
Spending time with my friends.

What is your wellness goal?
Lose around 15 lbs.

What is your favorite food?

Hi, my name is Kimberly Grasmick. I am 21 years old and am originally from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. I graduated from Gettysburg Area High School in 2016 and am currently a rising senior at West Virginia University. I am currently majoring in biology and minoring in mathematics with hopes of attending medical school next fall. Although I do not have a particular career in mind yet, some fields I am interested in are dermatology and radiology. I plan to decide on a specialty after getting hands-on experience in medical school.

What is your favorite thing to do to stay active?
I enjoy going for runs outdoors and doing yoga.

How often do you exercise and when?
Every other day in the evening (about three times a week).

How did you get into physical fitness?
I did gymnastics since I was young and was used to the conditioning. I try to keep the trend going throughout my life.

What motivates you to stay active?
Working out with my friends.

What do you do for fun?
I like gymnastics and painting.

What is your wellness goal?
To focus more on nutrition, eating more nutrient-dense foods.

What is your favorite food?
Chicken alfredo.

Hi, my name is Jessica Reinhart. I’m 20 years old, and I’m from Boonsboro, Maryland. I graduated from Boonsboro High school in 2016 and am now a rising senior at Towson University. I am majoring in nursing, and after I graduate in spring of 2020, I plan to work as a pediatric nurse.

What is your favorite thing to do to stay active?
Running and lifting weights.

How often do you exercise and when?
Three times a week after work.

How did you get into physical fitness?
I went to college and gained the “freshman 15.”

What motivates you to stay active?
To stay in shape and live a long and healthy life.

What do you do for fun?
Watch hockey.

What is your wellness goal?
To tone up and gain more muscle.

What is your favorite food?

Hello! My name is Emme Tissue, and I am 18 years old. I just graduated from Westminster High School and will be attending Skidmore College in the fall. I plan to major in environmental science and maybe minor in biology or public health. While I have not decided on a specific career path, I would love to work for a nonprofit environmental organization.

What is your favorite thing to do to stay active?
Weightlifting and high intensity interval training.

How often do you exercise and when?
Around three to four times a week before work.

How did you get into physical fitness?
I realized how good it felt to stay active. My mom always exercises, and I just decided to follow in her footsteps.

What motivates you to stay active?
Feeling strong and healthy.

What do you do for fun?
I enjoy hiking, reading, watching movies, and traveling.

What is your wellness goal?
To feel healthy and improve my nutrition.

What is your favorite food?
Blueberry pie with vanilla ice cream.
