Feds Feed Families is a federal workforce initiative to fight hunger in our local communities. This year’s campaign began on June 13 and will continue until the end of August. After collecting approximately 550 pounds of food each of the last two years, NCI at Frederick is making a push to collect even more this summer.
On June 29, during Take Your Child to Work Day, a 10-foot truck will be parked in the hub area along Chandler Street and Wood Street.
“The NIH in Bethesda has a ‘fill the truck’ event to kick off the campaign,” said Melissa Porter, administrative manager of the Office of Scientific Operations. “We wanted to find a way to participate in a similar manner and decided to have our fill the truck event. The NCI at Frederick community never shies away from a challenge. The goal of filling a 10-foot truck with non-perishable human and animal food seems like a good challenge for us.”
The donated food does more than fill a truck; it helps those in the community who are in need. All donations in the truck will be delivered by NCI employees to Frederick charity organizations.
