The Scientific Library staff is happy to announce that our 17th Annual Book and Media Swap will be held again this year beginning on Wednesday, November 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Building 549.

If you need to make room for new books, are looking for new homes for your old books, or are tired of viewing those same old DVDs over and over, then the Swap is for you. Collection for materials has already begun, but donations will continue to be accepted through Tuesday, October 31.

When you bring your donations to the Library, the staff will issue a “book card” that indicates how many items you donated. You can then use this card to select an equivalent number of items from the Swap. (You do not have to make an exact swap—if you donated three CDs, you can take three books, DVDs, or CDs, or a combination thereof.)

The staff of the Scientific Library will accept all gently used materials as long as three requirements are met:

1) All materials must be clean and in good condition.
2) All materials must be commercially produced. Home-recorded or amateur-created products will not be accepted.
3) All materials must be personal items. Please do not include materials that have been purchased by your project. Those items are government property and may not be donated to this activity.

Also, please note that no videotapes or magazines will be accepted.

Opening Day for the 17th Annual Book and Media Swap is Wednesday, November 1. Beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Conference Center Lobby in Building 549, you can visit the Swap to find “new” items. The Swap will then continue in the Scientific Library in Building 549 through Thursday, November 30. At the conclusion of the event, all unclaimed materials will be donated to local charities.

Employees working at Industry Lane, the Vaccine Pilot Plant, and the ATRF are also able to participate in the Swap. Scientific Library staff members will visit these offsite locations to collect donated materials. Please contact the Scientific Library for more information about these collection days. Offsite employees will still need to come to the actual Book Swap to get “new” books, DVDs, and CDs.

The Scientific Library staff encourages all employees to use the 17th Annual Book and Media Swap as an opportunity to recycle reading materials, share with others, save some money, and find “new” books to read.
