Golfers set out from clubhouse at the 2014 R&W Club Frederick Golf Tournament.

Teams are forming for the third annual R&W Club Frederick Golf Tournament on Sept. 14. Last year’s tournament hosted more than 40 players and raised nearly $1,000 for the NIH Children’s Inn, Bethesda, Md.

The tournament will be held at Maryland National Golf Club in Middletown, Md.

“The Maryland National Golf Club course and location are beautiful, and the golf club staff is so accommodating  that we had no hesitation in booking the event there again this year,” said Tanya Ransom, biologist, NCI Center for Cancer Research, and the coordinator of the annual event.

The tournament will also include a silent auction from Great Moments Sports Memorabilia, in addition to a raffle for donated items, including gift cards to Golf Etc., duffle bag with water bottle, and golf towel and hat.

For those who are not sure about their golfing skills, no need to worry. The tournament is a scramble, which means each player hits a tee shot on each hole, and then everyone plays from the spot of the best shot.  “A scramble emphasizes fun over keeping individual scores,” Ransom said.

The tournament is open to employees and their families and friends, and is played in teams of four.

Gather your team, come up with a creative name, and register for this day of fun for a worthy cause. All proceeds from the tournament go to the NIH Children’s Inn.
